September 11, 2001 Confusion and Crying
6:45 a.m. PT I finally managed to fall asleep just three hours ago, and then ten minutes ago my dad called from the East Coast leaving frantic messages trying to wake us up. Apparently two planes were crashed into the World Trade Towers in New York. When I finally managed to answer the phone, I was completely confused about what day & time it was because I haven't slept more than 3 hours over the past 3 nights. I'm already sleep-deprived to the point of frayed sanity. One of the planes is apparently an American Airlines plane from Boston. My mom is flying on an American Airlines plane from Boston to San Francisco to visit me tomorrow morning. My exhausted brain was confused, so right now I'm crying uncontrollably, because at first I thought my dad was telling me that it was my mom's plane. My parents are freaking out because they can't locate my brother (who lives in Manhattan and goes to NYU's Stern business school). I'm sure he's probably sleeping somewhere or he misplaced his cellphone. My parents used to call me all worried when they heard there were fires in the Los Angeles hills, even though I lived several miles away. Do business school classes start before 10a.m.? Is Stern very close to the World Trade Center?
