In 2004, a guy who I don't know named Jeremy Abbate saw my website and wrote a song called "I Wanna Be As Cool As Jessica Barron." It still amuses me. Here's the mp3 and here are the lyrics.

December 8, 2009 Jimmy Kimmel Tries Out Yoostar (Again!) Tonight
Tonight Jimmy Kimmel will debut another Yoostar video on his show "Jimmy Kimmel Live" which airs at 12 midnight ET and 12 midnight PT on ABC. It's the best one yet. We hope you tune in.

Last month, Jimmy recorded and aired two Yoostar performances of scenes from "The Godfather" and "Friday the 13th, Part 3." Here they are, in case you missed them...

October 9, 2009 Mo Lahv Fo Yoostah
It was just a few days ago that I posted about all the great press Yoostar has been getting, and now there are two more positive mentions to add to that list:

Today "Esquire" magazine put Yoostar first on its list of the "Best Toys of 2009." They wrote: "No one remembers the year they got their fifty-third action figure, but if you want to make a memory that a kid won't ever forget — it's on this list." W00t!

On Wednesday night "Entertainment Tonight" ahost Mark Steines tried Yoostar and performed in scenes from "Beverly Hills Cop" and "Psycho." Here's the video which aired on "ET" on Oct 7, 2009:

September 30, 2009 A Year of Yoostar
It's been a year since I left Yahoo! to join Yoostar. It was a huge leap to leave a company of more than 10,000 people to join one with less than 30 people. When I joined Yoostar, the product itself was in the conceptual stage. Now one year later, we've launched a website with thousands of user-created videos, and we've put a consumer technology product into Bloomingdales stores nationwide. In just 2 more weeks, Yoostar will be in Best Buy, and after that in Amazon. What a wild ride.

It's so exciting that after a year of hard work (and secrecy about what we were up to), this is all finally debuting to the public.

Here's a "Blues Brothers" scene I acted in the other day in the 5 spare minutes I had after breakfast. As a longtime blogger, I love that it's easy to embed my Yoostar performances into any blog and share them on Facebook as well. (That is one thing that many people aren't aware of yet, so I felt I should demonstrate.)

And the press reviews of the Yoostar system have been resoundingly positive:

  • Most recently, on the "Rachael Ray Show" on Sept 19, Rachael donned an Amish outfit to use Yoostar to act opposite Harrison Ford in a scene from "Witness." As you can see from watching the video segment, Rachael was incredibly excited about using Yoostar and told her audience, "This is big!"

  • In the New York Times Gadget wise blog, Peter Wayner wrote in his post "Yoostar Brings the Green Screen Home": "Yoostar mixes together a fancy webcam, access to the best content from Hollywood, and a sophisticated Web site to create a video version of karaoke that can be shared with anyone on the Web."

  • USA Today's technology writer Ed Baig wrote "Yoostar lets anyone act opposite Hepburn, Brando."

  • Associated Press Entertainment Writer Derrik J. Lang wrote a piece headlined "Yoostar is a movie-studio-in-a-box."

  • New York Times Technology reporter David Pogue had some criticism of Yoostar which he expressed via a video he published that he created using Yoostar. In my opinion, Pogue's video showed how much fun he had using Yoostar, and how creative the system can let you be.

  • Fast Company posted "Yoostar Turns Greenscreening Into a Game."

  • Variety wrote "Film may have found its Guitar Hero."

  • That's what we're hoping. That this will be the next social entertainment phenomenon, similar to karaoke, Guitar Hero, or Rock Band. Check out the gallery of performances, and you'll see how much fun people are having using Yoostar. Also, come out and try Yoostar out for yourself one of the stops from our nationwide Casting Tour. The grand prize is a walk-on role in a LionsGate film. If the tour isn't stopping near you, head into a local Bloomingdales. They have stages where you can step up and try Yoostar out.

May 22, 2009 Get Back to Where You Once Belonged
I'm back in LA, after spending last week in NYC for some Yoostar press demos and meetings. Yoostar was written up in Forbes, Good Housekeeping, NY Daily News, and several other places. Follow our Yoostar twitter feed to stay up-to-date.

We've updated Yoostar.com with a new intro video and, and we updated the Roles page to show some of the movie clips you can act in with the Yoostar system.

Also, you may have noticed that this blog looks pretty different (and also that I'm posting to it after over two years of absence). While I was in NYC, my friend Lee pointed out that poprocks.com looked "so 1999." He was basically telling me that my online presence was wearing mom jeans. Ouch. I suppose, it's good to have friends who will be bluntly honest. It's like the time Andy told me that I needed an RSS feed for my blog, or the time JP told me I should not ever -- under any circumstances -- leave the house without wearing a bra. Funny, though, no one ever said there was anything wrong those times when I dyed my hair blue or apricot. I've seen the photos, and I'm surprised I didn't receive more critical feedback.

    August 3, 2005 A Healthy 'Self'-Interest?
Go pick up the August issue of "Self" magazine and turn to page 109.

There (in the "Happiness" section) you will find a quick mention about Allyson's and my podcast. (It's in an article about cool ideas for hanging out with your girlfriends rather than just going to see a movie or going to bars. I wanted them to write that girls should get together and start their own pirate radio stations, but the editor said that pirate radio wasn't "a good fit for "Self's audience." Podcasting was a bit more their style. And a bit more legal too, I suppose...)

Here's a shot we took of the article.

    May 26, 2005 "We're Sexy F#cking Outlaws"
SFist interviewed me today about our She Said, She Said radio show, and here's the piece they published about us.

That's all well and good, but I'm still trying to get over the sting of Eve (from SFist) trying to steal my boyfriend last week.
